Stressed out Brits too exhausted to have sex

Stress and exhaustion are causing havoc with Brits’ sex lives despite a third of us thinking about it at least once a day, and one in five of those with sex on the brain thinking about it at least ten times a day.

More than half (58 per cent) of British people admitted that stress and anxiety were getting in the way of their sex life, with more than one in ten revealing it happens often, according to a new survey of 2,000 UK men and women commissioned by Vitano® Rhodiola.  The figure rose to a massive 67 per cent in 25 – 34 year olds whose sex lives were impacted by stress.

The poll also found that exhaustion, a common symptom of stress, was the most frequently cited reason for being put-off activity between the sheets. Some 38 per cent of people said they experienced stress or anxiety at least once a week, with two thirds citing work as the biggest cause.

Dr David Edwards, a GP and specialist in sexual dysfunction, has come across this issue in hundreds of patients: “Aside from the mental impact of stress, it can have many physical impacts on the body including, increased blood pressure, headaches and loss of energy. But many may not realise that it can manifest itself through loss of libido, impacting performance in the bedroom. And this can be a difficult subject to talk about even within a close relationship.”

Issues and economic uncertainty were also referenced as libido-killers in the survey, with a fifth admitting that financial uncertainty impacted their libido and four per cent blaming Brexit for a decrease in their sex drive.

Rhodiola rosea (extract WS 1375) is available on the high street in the form of Vitano® Rhodiola tablets, a traditional herbal medicine used for the temporary relief of symptoms associated with stress such as fatigue, exhaustion, and ‘burnout’. Taking 200mg, twice a day could help to control the release of stress hormones whilst helping to improve energy and libido levels. Always read the label.
